6 CDs and 113 tracks covering the Virgin Records career of acclaimed New Wave legends the Skids. Disc 1 is the No.19 charting debut LP “Sacred To Dance” complete with eight bonus tracks and including the hit singles “Sweet Suburbia” (No.70) and “The Saints Are Coming” (No.48) and “Into The Valley” (No.10). The 2nd disc features the original “Days In Europa” album which hit No.32 back in 1979 and includes hit 45s like “Charade” (No.31) and “Working For The Yankee Dollar” (No.20) as well as the bonus of a version of Mott The Hoople’s “All The Young Dudes” from a BBC Radio 1 Kid Jensen session. Disc 3 is the No.9 charting “The Absolute Game” album complete with the bonus “Strength Through Joy” LP. Includes UK hit singles “Circus Games” (No.32), “Goodbye Civilian” (No.52) and “Woman In Winter” (No.49). The bands 4th album “Joy” has never before been issued on CD so here it is on Disc 4 along with six bonus tracks! Disc 5 sees for the first time on CD the remixed version of the “Days In Europa” album which includes the hit single “Masquerade” (No.14). Also included is the BBC In Concert show from March 1979. Disc 6 is another Skids collectors dream – all five of the band's sessions for John Peel! The twenty one tracks include many never re-recorded by the band and all are appearing here on CD for the first time. Add in a detailed 40 page booklet with detailed sleeve notes by band devotee Tim Barr and all overseen by the official website and you have the Ultimate Skids release!

They're probably worth a reassessment, The Skids. They lost their audience (well, me, anyway) when they put a children's choir on 'Circus Days' , but you could probably make an argument for them as being a postpunk act before the term was coined.

I saw this tribute act, Arse, last night. I couldn't tell the difference.

Certainly worth a punt at the price Spin CDs are offering on pre-order - £21.99 and free UK shipping, compared to £33.44 on Amazon.

Definitely worth reassessing. The second album - Days in Europa - was the peak. The only time I ever got beaten up at a gig was watching the Skids in around 1980. The man next to me didn't like the way I danced - Richard Jobson style - to Working for the Yankee Dollar.....

Sorry to hear about that, Salentino. I mean, I know it's thirty five years ago, but what a wanker.

Working for the Yankee Dollar (TOTP, 1980)

Now, do you think this charming individual would have meted out the same treatment to Richard Jobson? Was he a fan from an earlier era, violently dismissive of more recent affectations? Or did what he saw stir something in him? Something he didn't like, perhaps. Something he'd been repressing?
