Hey wasn't there supposed to be a totally killer Small Faces box set coming out through Polygram this year?
I haven't noticed any advertisements.
Did I dream this?

McLagan and Jones were supposed to be working on this, but I don't think a release date was ever specified.

According to a blurb in the new ’60s special edition of Mojo, Universal Music will be issuing a Small Faces box set including “ultra-rare outtakes and unfinished songs” in late 2011/early 2012. Mojo writer Nark Paytress will contribute liner notes.

Really looking forward to this - but, alas, I don't think we'll see it released this side of Xmas now.

Yes. And a Kinks mono box of their first seven, plus epees and singles comps and stuff.

I meant the box sets.

In some sort of poltergeist fashion.

Is it supposed to be more comprehensive than the FIVE GUYS WALKED INTO A BAR set that's already out there?

Surely there's very little in common, as one is The Faces, and the other is The Small Faces...?

If we 'compare-and-contrast-in-a-controlled-environment' I think we'd find one is complete..., and the other isn't.

It all became possible when Sanctuary came under the ownership of the megolithic UMe. Put their stuff with the Decca stuff, and there you 'ave it.., bingo.., Bob's yer uncle.... the UMe complete Small Faces box.

Did the Faces ever have a 'complete' release...? Can't be arsed trawling Wiki just now.

Dear Pablo, please, never ever confuse The Faces with The Small Faces - one was Rod Stewart's backing band the other were one of the greatest bands the UK ever produced. Two different things.

This Small Faces band I can see how people would think it was all over for Rod when he left the band and struck out on his own because he cranked out some pretty good songs while with the Faces! I had never heard " Had Me A Real Good Time " before, but that is a great song amongst others!

If it's as comprehensive as FIVE GUYS... then I'll be completely thrilled! Not only can the Small Faces use a proper remastering campaign, but to have unreleased material (demos, outtakes, live performances etc.) finally made available would be nothing short of amazing. Here's hoping!

FUCKING A!
SMALL FACES BOX SET.
Please, God, do not include any of the recordings of "live sets" played to tapes of girls screaming. Maybe one or two, but that's it.
Crystal clear versions, please.
Well, OK, I'l take scratchy and nasty sounding ones if that's all you can come up with.
But we need some unreleased or very rare stuff on these discs.
Amen.

No Small Faces box set but deluxe 2 disc sets (3 discs in the case of Ogdens) of all the Small Faces albums out on 7th May. Sadly there's nothing on them which hasn't been available before.

And in order to make them "Deluxe" they're including the shitty electronically reprocessed stereo mixes on Disc 2. This is very disappoining!

At this point, it really comes down to how good they sound as these new discs are supposedly the first time the original masters were used for a CD release. If they don't sound much better than what's already out there, I'm saving my money.
