Ahh, Fuzz, you've made me go back into the depths of my past!

A little bit of googling brought me to Power Comics!

I know I had issue 1 of Fantastic and pretty much all of Terrific. My introduction to the wunnerful world of Marvel!

You're so right!Used to absolutely hate reading that.

Do you recognize the style of this guy, Ken Reid - a real hero of mine:

As well as illistrating Frankie Stein, Faceache and Martha's Monster Makeup, Reid also produced one page ‘fillers’ for Shiver and Shake’s Creepy Creations in 1973. Whoopee’s Wanted Posters in 1974 and the original WWW in the shape of his World Wide Wierdies. These were usually based on suggestions from the readers who received a cash prize for their suggestions.

His artwork seemed so bizarre to me as a kid. If I had the free cash I'd love an original piece of his art.

Ken Reid is a god! His art was always head and shoulders above most of the Fleetway cartoonists. I'd love to have a Ken Reid original too. I wonder where they all are? Tucked away in his daughter's loft in Grimsby? Or all framed on the wall in Jonathan Ross's karzey?

I was also a huge Leo Baxendale fan. Remember him?

Still going strong. I see Christmas presents for nieces and nephews.

Very interesting article here on 'controversial' 'Action', mid-70s precursor to 2000AD.

I read that a couple of weeks ago. Something had jarred my mind about Dredger and Hook Jaw. Loved that comic. Early 2000 AD was great as well. Harlem Heroes, Flesh, Invasion! I adored Warlord and Battle as well. Man, the memories... blush

And don't forget WHAM!comic with the wonderful Grimly Feendish:

One Brit comic I vivdly remember was COR!, not just for it's weekly cover star Gus the Gorilla ("you can't make a monkey out of Gus!")or it's strip featuring The Goodies, but for a frankly disturbing strip called Rat Trap, about an evil half human/half rodent criminal mastermind called Dr Rat:

Maybe it was the bizarre artwork, but this strip terrified me.

After looking in on this thread I invested in this - not quite as great as I recall from when I read it in 2000AD as a kid but gratifyingly bloody all the same smile

Tell you what's interesting in comix at the moment - 'The Simpsons' After years of it just being basically the same as the show, and aimed at kids, they've started getting more underground artists and writers in to do stories. Some of the art, particulrly, is a little unsettling.
